Which automatic models you can find in Marrakech, at what price, when to book and how to drive an automatic in Moroccan traffic.
In Morocco, manual gearboxes are still the norm: most rental cars are Dacia Logans, Sanderos or Dusters with a clutch. Automatics exist, but there are fewer of them and they go quickly. Here is what you need to know to rent an automatic car in Marrakech at the right price.

Why choose an automatic in Marrakech?
Traffic in Marrakech is lively: scooters weaving through, horse-drawn carriages, roundabouts where everyone edges forward. Around Jemaa el-Fna, Bab Doukkala or Avenue Mohammed VI, you are constantly stopping and starting. With an automatic, you keep both hands and all your attention on the road.
It is also the only option if your licence is restricted to automatics, or if you haven't driven a manual for a long time: North American travellers in particular should not discover the clutch in the medina.
Which automatic models in Marrakech?
Automatics at Marrakech agencies fall into three families:
| Family | Common models | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| City car | Peugeot 208, Kia Picanto, Toyota Yaris | Couples, city and motorway |
| SUV | Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008, Kia Sportage | Families, Atlas, Ouarzazate |
| Premium | Mercedes C-Class, BMW 3 Series, Range Rover Evoque | Business, events |
On Locavi today, the automatic car available is the Peugeot 208, a recent, compact and well-equipped city car. Other models will arrive with the next partner agencies: the up-to-date list is on our automatic car hire Marrakech page, and the details of the 208 on the Peugeot 208 hire Marrakech page.
How much does an automatic cost?
In October 2026, the automatic Peugeot 208 rents from 340 MAD per day outside high season, with unlimited mileage and basic insurance included. By comparison, a manual Dacia Sandero starts at 230 MAD: the average gap between automatic and manual is around 20 to 30%.
Prices rise during the spring holidays, the summer and the end-of-year holidays. Conversely, a discount applies automatically from 7 days of rental (up to −15% from 28 days). For all rates, see our car hire prices in Marrakech.
When to book?
Because they are rare, automatics are the first to go. Our advice:
- Normal periods: book two to four weeks before you arrive.
- Spring holidays, summer, end of year: four to eight weeks before.
- Keep free cancellation: you can cancel free of charge up to 48 hours before pick-up.
Driving an automatic in Morocco: our tips
- On the Tizi n'Tichka descents, switch to manual mode or the L/B position to use engine braking and spare the brakes.
- At traffic lights and in Gueliz traffic jams, stay in D with your foot on the brake: no need to shift back to neutral.
- In an attended car park, put the gearbox in P and apply the handbrake before switching off the engine.
- Never put your left foot on the brake pedal: one foot for both pedals.
