Why choose diesel in Morocco
On motorways and long mountain roads, a diesel uses about 1 litre less per 100 km than an equivalent petrol engine. On a 1,500 km road trip, the fuel saving adds up.
Diesel is available at every station, including in the south. Still, fill up before long stretches without towns.
The most rented diesels in Marrakech
- Dacia Logan: budget saloon, about 5 litres per 100 km.
- Dacia Duster: tough SUV, about 5.5 to 6 litres per 100 km.
- Kia Sportage and Peugeot 3008: comfortable automatic SUVs for the Atlas.
- Toyota Hilux and Land Cruiser Prado: 4x4s for tracks.
Diesel or petrol?
If you stay mostly in town, a small petrol car or a hybrid is enough. As soon as you plan Essaouira, Ouarzazate or the desert, diesel is the most economical choice.
