Marrakech → Merzouga: road trip to the dunes

Highlights

• Aït Ben Haddou and the Draa Valley

Itinerary day by day

1. Day 1

   Marrakech → Aït Ben Haddou

   Crossing the Tizi n'Tichka and a night at the foot of the ksar, 4 to 5 hours of driving with stops.

2. Day 2

   Aït Ben Haddou → Dades / Todra gorges

   The road through the Valley of Roses and the palm groves, about 5 hours with stops.

3. Day 3

   Gorges → Merzouga

   Head for Erfoud then Merzouga. Leave the car at the guesthouse and ride a camel to the bivouac.

4. Days 4 to 5

   Return

   Back to Marrakech in one or two stages, via Ouarzazate, or via Midelt and Fes if you continue the tour.

Our tips

• Book your nights in advance in peak season.
• Fill up whenever you can: stations are rarer after Tinghir.
• A rental car does not go into the dunes: access is by camel or by excursion 4x4.
