Essaouira's fortified medina, its blue harbour and its trade winds are less than three hours away on an easy road through the argan trees.
Take the N8 west. The road is straight and well maintained; fill up before you leave.
After Chichaoua, the road crosses the argan forests. Stop at a women's cooperative to see how the oil is made.
Park in the large car park near the harbour or Bab Doukkala, then visit the medina on foot.
Choose your fish at the stalls and it is grilled in front of you. Then climb up to the Skala for the view.
Allow 2 h 45 to drive back; avoid driving at nightfall if you are not comfortable on secondary roads.
