Do no-deposit rentals exist? What you are promised, what is realistic, and how to reduce the deposit to the minimum.
"Car hire without a deposit" is one of the most frequent searches for Marrakech. Here is what it really means.
To book your car for this trip, see our car rental in Marrakech with a cash deposit and car rental in Marrakech with no credit card deposit pages.
What is the deposit for?
It is a guarantee held on your bank card. It allows the agency to cover any damage or charges (missing fuel, fines, excess). It is not charged and it is released when you return the car.
Do truly no-deposit rentals exist?
Very rarely. When an agency advertises one, it is generally in exchange for another guarantee: paying for more expensive additional insurance, a card imprint, or a non-refundable flat fee. Always read the conditions.
How to reduce the deposit to the minimum
- Choose Serenity protection: the excess drops to 0 MAD and the deposit falls to the minimum required.
- Choose an affordable category: a mini or an economy car has a much lower deposit than a 4x4 or a premium vehicle.
- Compare agencies: some charge lower deposits, as shown on each car page.
No bank card?
The deposit is taken by card. If you don't have a credit card, ask the agency directly whether another guarantee is possible: some accept a cash deposit, but it is at their discretion.
