Why rental companies ask for a credit card
A car rental involves two different payments:
- the rental price, which you pay to use the car;
- the deposit, a guarantee covering the excess in case of damage, missing fuel or a fine. It is not cashed: it is returned to you when you bring the car back.
The big brands hold the deposit on a credit card because it is simple for them: an amount is reserved against your limit, then released a few days after the return. A debit card does not always allow this hold, hence the frequent refusals at airport desks.
The solution: a cash deposit
Many local agencies in Marrakech accept a cash deposit, in dirhams. You hand over the amount when you collect the keys, the agency gives you a receipt, and returns the money when you bring the car back, after the inspection. How much to bring?
The amount depends on the car category. At our current agencies:

Paying for the rental without a card
On Locavi, booking is free: nothing is charged online. You pay for the rental directly at the agency when you collect the keys, in cash (dirhams) or by card if you have one. You don't need a card to secure your car. All the details are on our payment at the agency page.
The documents to show
Without a credit card, the agency pays closer attention to documents. Bring:
- your valid driving licence, held for at least two years;
- your passport (or ID card for residents);
- your Locavi booking confirmation;
- the deposit amount in cash, in dirhams.
The name on the licence must be that of the main driver named on the booking.
The traps to avoid

- No deposit without a receipt. Ask for a signed receipt showing the amount, the date and the car's registration number.
- Do the inspection with photos. This is the document that protects your deposit on return: follow our inspection checklist.
- Return the car with the same fuel level. Missing fuel is one of the most common deductions from the deposit.
