How prices moved in 2026
Fuel prices are free in Morocco and follow world prices. They are usually revised twice a month, around the 1st and the 16th. After a series of rises since summer 2026, diesel overtook petrol: in early October it was close to 16 MAD a litre, before dropping by about 20 centimes on 16 October while petrol stayed stable. We update this table every month.

Diesel or petrol?
Your car takes one specific fuel, shown on the car page and inside the fuel flap. Do not get it wrong: the wrong fuel can damage the engine and is not covered by insurance. Even though diesel currently costs slightly more per litre, a diesel car is still cheaper over a long trip because it uses 1 to 2 litres less per 100 km: see our diesel car rental in Marrakech page.
Where to fill up: the nearest station
The big brands are in every town and along the motorways, with service areas open 24/7. In the Atlas and the south, stations are further apart: fill up as soon as your tank drops below half. To find the nearest petrol or diesel station, a map app on your phone is enough; download the offline map before heading south.
Pay by card or cash?
Motorway and town stations generally take cards. In small stations, keep cash (dirhams). An attendant fills the tank for you: a small tip of a few dirhams is customary if they clean the windscreen.
Full-to-full policy
The car is handed over with a full tank and must be returned at the same level. Fill up just before you return it, and keep the receipt.
Practical tips
- Always check the level before heading south.
- Avoid driving with an almost empty tank.
- Fill up in Marrakech before the Tizi n'Tichka, and in Erfoud before Merzouga.
- Fuel prices change twice a month: check at the pump.
