Salon d'un riad au cœur de Marrakech

Where to stay in Marrakech: which district to choose, with or without a car?

20 October 2026 · 2 min read ·

Medina, Gueliz, Hivernage, Palmeraie, Agdal or the Ourika road: what each district offers, and whether a rental car will really be useful there.

Choosing where to stay in Marrakech means choosing your rhythm: walking the lanes or driving to the Palmeraie. Here are the districts, with what they offer and the role of the car.

To book your car for this trip, see our car rental on the Ourika road, Marrakech and car rental agencies in Marrakech pages.

The medina: charm and lanes

Riads, souks, Jemaa el-Fna: everything is on foot. The car does not go to your door and is only for excursions. See the medina by car and renting a car when you stay in a riad.

Gueliz: the modern city

Restaurants, shops, wide avenues: Gueliz is the most practical district with a car, thanks to parking and its closeness to the Majorelle Garden. See car rental in Gueliz.

Hivernage: hotels and lounges

Upmarket hotels, restaurants and spas, a few minutes from Gueliz and the medina. The car is delivered to the hotel. See car rental in Hivernage.

The Palmeraie: calm and resorts

Villas, golf courses and large hotels, several kilometres from the centre: a car is almost essential. See car rental in the Palmeraie.

Agdal and Targa: local life

Residential districts near the station and the airport, with quieter and often more affordable addresses.

The Ourika road and Agafay: the countryside

Lodges, guesthouses and views of the Atlas: a car is essential. See the Agafay desert by car.

Booking the car according to the district

Give the name and address of your accommodation when you book: the keys are handed over at the hotel, the riad or the airport. The page delivery to the hotel details the conditions, and our guide trip to Marrakech helps you organise flight, accommodation and car.
