La vallée de l'Ourika en automne

The Ourika Valley by car: a practical guide from Marrakech

12 May 2026 · 2 min read ·

Road, timing, the Monday market, the Setti Fatma waterfalls: everything for a successful day in the Ourika Valley.

The Ourika Valley is the easiest excursion from Marrakech: an hour and a quarter of driving, mountain scenery and waterfalls at the end of the road.

To book your car for this trip, see our sUV rental in Marrakech and small car rental in Marrakech pages.

The road

About 65 km on the R203. It is paved all the way, but becomes more winding after Tnine Ourika. A city car is perfectly adequate.

What time to leave?

Before 9 am to avoid the weekend crowds. If you come in summer, arrive early and walk in the morning: the hike to the waterfalls is more pleasant before noon.

The Monday market

Tnine Ourika hosts a Berber market on Mondays: fruit, vegetables, spices, crafts. It is the best time to stop by, but the road is busier.

The Setti Fatma waterfalls

Park at the end of the road and follow the marked trails. The climb to the first waterfalls takes about 45 minutes. Wear closed trainers: the rocks are wet.

Where to have lunch?

The riverside restaurants set up their tables on raised platforms. Try the tagine and mint tea, facing the river.

Other ideas

  • Oukaimeden, higher up, for the ski resort in winter.
  • A night in a guesthouse to enjoy the peace and quiet.
