Ramadan in Marrakech: driving and renting a car during the holy month

26 February 2026 · 2 min read ·

Traffic times, the evening break, excursions: how to organise your rental during Ramadan.

Travelling to Marrakech during Ramadan is a wonderful experience, as long as you adapt your schedule.

Traffic during Ramadan

The city's rhythm changes: mornings are calm, but traffic becomes heavy and hurried just before the breaking of the fast (iftar), at sunset. Avoid driving in the centre in the hour before.

Agency opening hours

Many agencies open later in the morning and close earlier in the afternoon. Specify your key collection time when you book, and confirm it the day before on WhatsApp.

Excursions

The roads are quieter during the day. A trip to Essaouira or Ourika is pleasant, but many restaurants close during the day: bring water and something to nibble discreetly.

A few courtesies

Out of respect for people who are fasting, avoid eating and drinking conspicuously in public during the day. Restaurants for tourists stay open in Marrakech, but be discreet on the road.

Is Ramadan a good time to rent?

Prices are often lower than in high season. Take the opportunity to book early and choose your vehicle.
