Renting a car in Agadir: Taghazout, Paradise Valley and the south coast

20 October 2026 · 2 min read ·

Al Massira airport, Taghazout, Paradise Valley, Taroudant and the coast road to Essaouira: how to enjoy the south coast by car.

Agadir is a seaside resort with a mild climate, rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake, with a big beach and a corniche. To discover the south coast, a car changes everything: here is how to organise your stay.

To book your car for this trip, see our car rental at Marrakech train station and 4x4 rental in Marrakech pages.

Agadir by car

The city is spread out and easy to get around: wide avenues, fluid traffic, car parks near the beach. The car is mainly useful for getting out: Taghazout, Paradise Valley, Taroudant, the Anti-Atlas and the coast road.

Agadir-Al Massira airport

The airport (AGA) is about 25 km from the centre. Ask for the keys to be handed over directly at the terminal to avoid a detour. For late-evening flights, tell the agency your flight number.

Where to go by car from Agadir

Taghazout20 km25 minsurf, fishing villages
Taroudant85 km1 h 15ramparts and souks
Essaouira175 km2 h 45medina and beaches

For Paradise Valley, a small car is enough in the dry season, with care on the last kilometres. For the coast to the south (Tiznit and beyond), the road is paved and easy.

A 3-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: beach and corniche in Agadir, sunset from the kasbah.
  2. Day 2: Taghazout in the morning, Paradise Valley in the afternoon.
  3. Day 3: Taroudant, then back or take the coast road to Essaouira.

For a complete loop, see our Marrakech – Essaouira – Agadir 4-day route.

Tips for driving on the coast

  • The coast road to Essaouira is beautiful but winding: allow time.
  • Fill up before leaving the city: see fuel and petrol stations in Morocco.
  • Avoid driving at night outside the city.

Which car?

A small car is enough for the city and the coast. For country tracks and the Anti-Atlas, an SUV is more comfortable. Also see the page car rental for Agadir to be notified when Locavi opens.
